The former one-man business with 30 beds opened in the winter of 1988/89 offering bed & breakfast accommodation and has steadily expanded ever since. In 1995, it was transformed into a hotel with the expansion of the kitchen and addition of the terrace and spa area. The business serves as an example of how to secure a meaningful existence for yourself and your family through commitment, courage and ambition and also demonstrates how remarkable things can be achieved for our village in terms of tourism.
Always by Andreas’ side is his life partner Sabine. Ever since the couple started the business, Sabine has also dedicated all her time, effort and energy to the continued existence and further development of the hotel.
With the support of Sabine and his two daughters, Stephanie and Carina, Andreas decided to risk further investment. In 2011, he expanded the hotel by adding numerous rooms and a large dining hall. A great deal of attention was paid to making the entrance area attractive and welcoming. With the construction of a swimming pool and fitness room, Andreas made sure that guests still have plenty to do even when they are confined indoors due to the weather. Guests who like to exercise are particularly at home here. In 2016, alterations were carried out in the spa area to make it even more appealing. It was extended over two floors and a sun terrace was adapted.
The host family is especially proud of the countless regular guests, who have remained loyal over many years, some of whom have witnessed the many different faces of the hotel since its early days.
Nowadays, with the capacity to cater to 100 guests, the hotel is one of the largest tourism businesses in Obertilliach. The hosts like to take good care of their guests, spending time with each one, and Andreas is also happy to share his knowledge about farming. He is especially proud to be able to offer meat from their own lambs and Angus cows, which often amazes guests. Finding many homemade products on the menu is particularly important to guests nowadays. Andreas also understands how to integrate horses into his business and is happy to make himself available as a riding instructor.
It is especially important to Andreas to contribute to the further development of the tourism sector throughout the valley and he shows great commitment to the community. The input of experienced landlords is indispensable in tourism regions.
Daughter Stephanie attended the Higher Vocational School for Service Industries management (HLW), graduated there, and also gained some work experience outside the family business. She already demonstrates great interest in the tourism industry into which she was born and safeguards the existence and continuation of the hotel. The 26-year-old already handles all correspondence, including the reception, and is a passionate organiser. Younger daughter Carina also graduated from the HLW in Lienz before deciding to start her career in the family business. The 21-year-old has found her vocation in the restaurant.
The hotel has a total of 15 employees, who work well together as a team and also help to run the “Sabine” guesthouse in Bergen.
In July 2019, a large celebration took place at Hotel Andreas to mark its 30th anniversary. Numerous locals, regular guests and friends used the occasion to celebrate together with the host family. Musical entertainment was provided by musicians of the Tilliach band.
